Moong Dal Pitha [Diwali Snack Recipe]
Ever had Bengali cuisine without savoring any of their sweets? Sounds odd right? Bengali cuisines are popular for their deserts that they bring to the table. Showcasing a combination of nuts and milk there are a few that are predominantly using a texture that’s unique and not too common.
Talking of sweets, moong dal pitha is that one recipe that not only salivates our taste buds but also is also flavorful and good in texture. Even though many consider it to be just like a gulab jamun, they aren’t exactly the same. This is much harder in texture and is dipped in sugar syrup to give it that traditional and flavorful essence after a hearty meal.

INGREDIENTS
- 2 tsp ghee
- ½ cup moong dal
- 1 ½ cup water
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup rice flour
- Doctors’ Choice refined sunflower oil for frying
For the Sugar Syrup
- 1 ½ cup sugar
- 1 ½ cup water
- ¼ tsp saffron
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
PROCEDURE
- Take a pressure cooker and add 1 tsp ghee and roast ½ cup moong dal in it
- Add 1 cup water and milk
- Pressure cook it all for 4 whistles on a medium flame
- Whisk the dal well until its smooth
- Add in ½ cup water and stir it well
- Now add 1 cup of rice flour and stir it all well
- Ensure to keep mixing it until the mixture separates from the pan
- Add in 1 tsp of ghee and continue to mix
- Pinch a small ball-sized dough and shape them as per your liking
- Deep fry them with Doctors’ Choice Refined Sunflower Oil until it’s golden brown
- Drop them into a warm sugar syrup and allow them to rest for 2 hours before serving
